October 24, 2010 - Foliage Flight in the Cub

At the Skypark on Sunday, I did some maintenance on the RV, then decided to fly the Cub since the weather was so nice and the leaves were turning.

Heading east across the Chesapeake Bay to the Eastern Shore.

I flew the Cub for about an hour over Miller?s Island and then Eastern Shore and my favorite foliage scenic place.

The foliage was pretty good ? not peak yet, but getting there.

A house on the Eastern Shore.

I saw a gaggle of over 10 turkeys near some trees but they went scurrying into the treeline.

The private grass strip where the SeaWind lives.

This  is my favorite place during foliage season.   It's hard to know when it will peak however.  I think I was too late this year.

I went down llow over the grove and it was awesome.

I should enter this shot in a contest or something.

I found a dirt road in a big grass field and flew low down the road.  I got a good look at a fox.  I continued down low over a long field.  It was a blast.

Miller Hart Island, a man-made island just off the Back River.   Nice emergency landing strip for the Cub.

Back at Essex, I tried my new wheel landing technique on the grass and my landing was so good, I laughed out loud.  Great flight.  You can?t beat the Cub for low and slow.

Essex Skypark is surrounded by a sea of trees and it is usually some of the best color around.
